Hi Admin,

Thanks for taking the time to come back to me.

We have installed electrified fencing on some high security sites in the UK but the red tape is a mine field.

Those pictures you have put up show some nice work- you guys should be pleased.

With regards to fencing height we also have strict planning regulations; basically anyhting over 2m finished height needs council planning approval.......

I can clearly see how this type of electric fencing is both a visible deterrrent and a physical one.

Hiya Cambridgeshire fences,

Our regulations may not be as strict, it is highly regulated in sense of voltages, joules, nature of installation but like many things in SA, not controlled. I have seen one fence where the owner connected there 230V mains system to the fence and bypassed the earth leakage on the DB board. If someone had died there, the owners of the property would have gone to jail - even if the criminal intent was clear with firearms etc involved.

The last 8 joule shock i got involved a new fence just installed with a temporary section we had connected while we were working. Still early in the morn and maybe my brain hadn't arrived at work yet! I was holding onto one of the support poles concreted in day before and inspecting it, bent over and my hip touched the fence through a jacket and clothing. So grounded properly (all the earth spikes were in already) by the post and shocked on the hip. I was completely disorientated for a few seconds, almost passed out. It burnt like crazy for a couple of hours and i limped a little with the discomfort for a day. You could also see the visible burn mark (be it small) on my hip for around a week.

It is something you really try to avoid again! Have post 2 pics above on similar fences, 1 is a 2.24mm and the other a 1.2mm. They are 24 strand with. Of the 24 strands, 12 are live in series, the other are earth either in parallel or series (depends on a lot of factors) so alternating 1 live, 1 earth)

Hi,

I like the article. We are UK based and the use of electric fencing is highly regulated over here; especially for use against homo sapiens!

Dont suppose you could post a pic up of the type of system you describe?? I assume its constructed with individual line wires..?

So what sort of bang does 8 joules give you?
