Whilst Marantz certainly do make some of the best home amplifiers available which boast excellent sound quality both on paper and in use, there is a catch!

Marantz reputation for support has certainly shown that they may not be as well committed to support as they are in design. Countless posts on various webs has shown this trend to be very evident.

Further to that what most will not tell you is that Marantz does NOT have any registered support centre in SA (at time of this article, there were no service support centres listed in SA, but loads of suppliers). Now its all very well being sold a great amplifier with a 1 or 2 year warranty…. But what happens when it goes bang!!

There are not many people in SA who will even to attempt to repair Marantz as they are to say the least very complex amps. Yes we do repair Marantz amps but without the support of Marantz themselves , it makes repairing a Marantz very difficult and not always possible if the correct circuit diagrams and information is not available. In my experience with Marantz, communication to them has yet to be responded… it appears as they really just couldn’t be bothered.

So consider carefully when considering a Marantz, if support concerns you then maybe re-evaluate, if great sound is what you are after and not concerned about support, then Marantz is a fantastic choice.
