It is important to note that game fences especially HAVE to be customised to the game farm that the fence is being designed for. Of course an option would be to design and install a fence to suite all game types, but this would be unnecessarily expensive, especially on farms that may only keep several types of antelope, none of them jumpers!

Each animal must be considered, what there ability to “escape” is and how. Some of the more difficult traditionally Warthog and Leopard! Leopard will easily use the strain posts to climb over without correct wiring (looped outside) Well positioned off set brackets assist in burrowers, climbers and jumpers and stops them from getting to the fence itself. Other considerations for game fencing are water areas, rivers etc and how to control the game in these areas. Custom flood control switches and systems play there role here in water systems to stop the animals crossing, but not degrade the fence quality when the water comes up.

One of the biggest issues surrounding game fencing in South Africa is unfortunately the cheapest quote often wins! While it initially seems logical and cost effective, it often turns out the other way. Electric fence installation with to few energizers, incorrect wiring or layout of wiring and the most common, incorrect and insufficient earthing. It is often apparent that no effort is made to establish the earthing ability of an area first or during install and a badly earthed fence is verging pointless! A badly installed game fence will leave animals continually escaping, causing harm to themselves (getting trapped) and finally with the owner contracting again to repair and correct the fence, a cost that often finally leads to substantially more than the original cost. In other words, have your fencing done correctly the first time!
